PROJECT DETAILS
ZABID
The city has been declared as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO under the governance of GTZ. Zabid,16 kms. away from the red sea, a dessert area with extreme climate, scanty rainfall. WA had won this project in a private international competition floated by the Dawoodi Bohras community Researching and Apprehending the topographical conditions of the plot, we strived to create a microclimate by introducing plantations on the peripheral lining of the landscape which helped barricading the heat draft and sandstorms from entering the plot. As an intent for the visitors to step out in the landscape despite the extreme conditions, gazebos depicting the 5 elements, avenue of trees, cascading water bodies etc., were introduced for serenity which also helped reducing the temperature by 3-5 degree within the plot. The entire structure was designed based on Fatimi Architecture using native materials like bricks, Noora powder, Alabaster and colored glass for the Qamariyas. Double walls, larger windows for cross ventilation , pocket terraces & landscaped terraces were introduced considering the climatic conditions. Sky light and central courtyard were introduced for dissipating heat gain.
